No more Formula 1 races in Russia https://motorsport-news.com/en/news/f1/292/no-more-formula-1-races-in-russia/ https://motorsport-news.com/en/news/f1/292/no-more-formula-1-races-in-russia/#respond Thu, 03 Mar 2022 12:23:00 +0000 https://motorsport-news.com/en/?p=292 After Formula 1 was cautious at the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine and issued rather vague statements about this year’s race, it has now decided to take a drastic step.

The contract with the Russian promoter has been terminated – meaning not only no Formula One race in Russia for 2022, but also for the foreseeable future. Some Formula 1 and sports commentators go so far as to say that there will be no Formula 1 races in Russia as long as Vladimir Putin is president.

Originally, Formula 1 was to be held at Igora Drive near St. Petersburg from 2021, and before that the DTM was to make its GT3 debut at the circuit – but nothing came of it because of Corona.

Speaking about the new five-year-deal, Max said: “I really enjoy being part of the Oracle Red Bull Racing Team, so choosing to stay to the 2028 season was an easy decision. I love this Team and last year was simply incredible, our goal since we came together in 2016 was to win the championship and we have done that, so now it’s about keeping the number one on the car long-term.”

Michael Masi no longer Formula 1 race director https://motorsport-news.com/en/news/f1/271/michael-masi-no-longer-formula-1-race-director/ https://motorsport-news.com/en/news/f1/271/michael-masi-no-longer-formula-1-race-director/#respond Thu, 17 Feb 2022 13:54:18 +0000 https://motorsport-news.com/en/?p=271 The Australian had come under fire from British media and Mercedes after his controversial decisions around the final laps in the final Formula One race of 2021.

The FIA today unveiled a multi-stage plan to ease the burden on race control at Formula One races. Among other things, there will be a virtual Race Control Room, similar to the video referee in soccer, to help race officials analyze disputed situations.

In addition, the transmission of direct communication between the team bosses and the race director is abolished. Most recently, the recordings of these radio messages were heard on TV.

Michael Masi will be replaced by DTM race director Niels Wittich and WEC race director Eduardo Freitas in turn. Michael Masi will be offered another position within the organization by the FIA.

In front of invited guests, the Aston Martin AMR22, for which four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel does not yet have a nickname, was unveiled at the Aston Martin plant in Gaydon.

The car appears to deviate from the previously known show cars from last year in the area of the front spoiler as well as the air intake.

During the presentation, Andrew Green, Chief Technical Officer, spoke of the fact that the first models under the new rules had very fast learning curves within a short period of time and that the development of the cars will also progress rapidly during the season.
